Oper8 Global has been featured in a new HiRef case study, highlighting our collaboration on a high-density cooling project for a leading scientific research centre in the UK.
The project presented a demanding set of requirements, with varying thermal loads across the data centre and limited space available within the existing environment. An effective cooling strategy was therefore needed that could accommodate different rack densities while making efficient use of the available data hall space.
Working closely with HiRef, Oper8 delivered a tailored rear door cooling solution designed around the specific requirements of the facility. Rather than relying solely on room-level cooling, the technology enables heat generated by IT equipment to be managed directly at rack level, helping to support high-density infrastructure while reducing the cooling footprint within the data hall.
A total of 25 rear door cooling units were supplied, including 20 active and five passive units, providing more than 500 kW of installed cooling capacity. The combination of active and passive cooling allowed the solution to be aligned with the differing thermal demands of individual racks.
The units were customised for the site, featuring a 45U configuration and dedicated connections to integrate with the existing infrastructure. This tailored approach helped ensure the cooling technology could be incorporated effectively within the site while supporting the operational needs of the research environment.
The project demonstrates the importance of combining the right technology with a solution designed around the environment in which it will operate. Through close collaboration, Oper8 Global and HiRef were able to deliver an efficient, space-conscious cooling solution suited to the demands of a complex, high-density IT environment.
